A lighter, comic murder mystery set at a high school reunion, with innuendo, deception and the series' sympathetic devil at its centre. Milder than many episodes, but the premise remains the main concern.

Faith & story

What does it say?

What's it about? The plot, without the ending

After a bestselling novelist is killed, Lucifer and Chloe discover that the figures in her books were modelled on people she knew at secondary school. To catch the killer they go undercover at her school reunion. Meanwhile, Linda and Amenadiel try to keep their relationship secret, and Lucifer searches for a way to help Pierce.

Through a faith lensHow it connects to the Bible

This episode turns on a hidden relationship, a deception and a sulking act of revenge, and Scripture speaks to all three. Jacob deceived his father and brother, and the fallout of that lie followed him for years. Linda and Amenadiel's secrecy hurts Maze, who learns the truth anyway and answers with a petty trap rather than honest words. Paul's advice cuts the other way: put away falsehood, speak truthfully, and do not let anger turn into revenge. By organising a dance for Chloe that she missed out on as a girl, Lucifer shows a generous, costly kind of love, nearer to what Paul describes than to his usual self-indulgence. The show reworks Satan as a misunderstood hero and makes light of the Father, which Scripture does not do. Jesus called the devil a liar and a murderer from the beginning. Peter warned that he prowls like a lion looking for someone to devour. Watch with that gap in mind: the fantasy is entertaining but is not the Bible's picture of evil, and the lies in the story carry real consequences.

Works of the flesh shown

Kindness and love show in Lucifer's gift of the prom to Chloe, who has never had one, and in Linda's loyalty to Maze when she ends things with Amenadiel for her friend's sake (Faithfulness). On the other side, Maze's hurt turns into strife and a fit of anger when she sets up the blind dates and storms out, and her wounded feelings carry a touch of jealousy. Self-control is the gap that matters most, since the revenge and the secrecy both grow out of it.

How Christians are portrayed

No Christians or churches appear. Faith comes in only through the series' fantasy of angels, the devil and an unseen Father, which treats God lightly and recasts Satan sympathetically, so it is not a portrayal of Christian faith as believers live it.
