How we guide

The age guide

How suitable a film or series is at each age, from under 8 to adults, so you can see at a glance who it's for. Open it from “Best for” at the top of any title page.

The age groups

Every analysed title gets a verdict for each of five groups.

The verdicts

How it's decided

The verdicts follow from the content guide: what's on screen, how intense it is, how often it happens, and how the story frames it. A brief, clearly condemned act of violence weighs differently from a long, glamorised one. Our AI review sets a verdict for each group, and our team takes a second look at titles flagged for it. Viewers who have watched a title can tell us what's in it, and what they agree on feeds into its next analysis.

Official age ratings from different countries are taken into account but not copied. They often weigh content differently from Christian families, for example treating language lightly or blasphemy not at all.

“Best for”

The header of each title page shows the youngest age we'd suggest, with a standard phrase under it:

  • 6+All ages
  • 10+With a parent
  • 13+Teens and up
  • 16+Older teens
  • 18+Adults only

Examples

Under 88–1213–1516–17Adults

Ages are a starting point. A sensitive 12-year-old and a robust one may need different answers, and so may two adults with different convictions. The content guide and the scene guide on every title page show what's in the film, so you can decide for yourself, and skip or talk through the moments that matter.

It's a guide to help families choose with wisdom, not a verdict on anyone's conscience (). If you think we got a title wrong, use “Was this analysis accurate?” on its page.
