How we score

The worldview score

What the film celebrates or condemns. The content meters measure what's on screen; the worldview score measures the message.

The scale

Every analysed title gets one of five values, from −2 to +2.

How it affects the HeartGuard score

score = 100 − 16 × content concern + 8 × worldview

Each step adds or removes 8 points, so worldview can move a score by up to 16 points either way. Two films with the same content can land in different places, depending on whether the story treats what it shows as a dead end or as something to admire.

Examples

Faith and the occult

How a story treats faith, Christians and the church is part of the worldview, not a content meter: a film that takes faith seriously scores higher here, however much or little faith it shows. The occult (witchcraft, spells, séances, satanic themes) is a content meter like violence or language, rated by how strong it is and how it is framed; the Bible’s own accounts of evil spirits, and Jesus casting them out, don't count as occult.

Who decides

The worldview score is a judgement, not a calculation. Our AI review sets it from the story, on a scale calibrated on reference titles, and our team takes a second look at titles flagged for it. If you think we got a film wrong, use “Was this analysis accurate?” on its page.

It's a guide to help families choose with wisdom, not a verdict on anyone's conscience ().
