Faith & story
What does it say?
What's it about? The plot, without the ending
Demons are loose in Los Angeles after a priest is possessed and a killing summons more of them. Lucifer, who has banned such possessions, must deal with rebels who threaten the people closest to him. Chloe, Maze, Amenadiel and Eve are drawn in as the danger comes close to home.
Through a faith lensHow it connects to the Bible
This episode presents the devil as a sympathetic hero who protects those he loves and then returns to rule Hell, which sits at odds with the Bible's account of Satan as a deceiver and enemy. Scripture calls him the father of lies and a murderer from the beginning. Demons here are an unruly horde. In the Gospels they recognise Jesus' authority and obey Him. The episode reverses this, with the devil commanding them. Dromos kills to summon his brother, a reminder of Jesus' warning that the thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. The kidnapping of a baby to make him a ruler echoes Herod's murderous fear of a newborn king. Ella regaining her faith and helping Dan let go of his anger reflects Paul's counsel not to let the sun go down on anger. Amenadiel's choice to stay and raise his son shows costly fatherly love. Families may want to talk about how the show borrows biblical names and ideas while reshaping who God and Satan are.

- Joy

- Gentleness
Love is shown when Lucifer, Chloe, Amenadiel, Maze and Eve risk themselves to rescue Charlie, and when Chloe admits her love for Lucifer. Faithfulness shows in Ella returning to her faith, and Kindness in her patient help to Dan. Peace appears when Ella helps Dan release his anger. Against this, Dromos acts with Hatred and Fits of anger, and the demons stir up Strife. Dromos's summoning killing and the demonic possessions bring in Sorcery, and the push to crown a new king of Hell reflects Idolatry of power. Lucifer's rule over the demons shows how little self-control the demons have.
The charactersExamples to follow or avoid
Lucifer MorningstarTom EllisThe devil, running a nightclub and working with the police. He is charming and flippant, and here he is pushed to protect those he loves and to face what he owes Hell.
Chloe DeckerLauren GermanA police detective and Lucifer's partner. She faces her feelings for him and helps lead the rescue.
AmenadielD. B. WoodsideLucifer's angel brother and a new father. The danger to his son makes him decide how and where to raise him.
Mazikeen 'Maze'Lesley-Ann BrandtA demon and Lucifer's loyal friend. She tracks the possessed priest and fights beside the others.
Ella LopezAimee GarciaA forensic scientist who is a person of faith. She finds her belief again and helps Dan let go of anger.
How Christians are portrayed
Faith appears mainly through Ella, whose renewed belief is treated warmly and helps another character heal. A priest is the body possessed by a demon, which uses the clergy as a vehicle for evil rather than mocking the church, and the show's version of God and Heaven is frequently irreverent.
